Hello all
Couple of questions?

Is it worth building a stud wall and putting 50mm celotex in the openings of my alcoves next to my fireplace.
The walls are cold to the touch and just wondered if it's worth it.
I could build a stud wall and plaster over it.
The damp course would be sorted first.
Would a damp membrane need o be installed between the stud wall and brick?
Any thoughts?
Am I going to save much heat?

Note: that link is for polystyrene backed plasterboard. For better insulation get phenolic boards (celotex etc.). Not sure if this is closed cell foam, but it should have foil on that would act as a vapour barrier.

However, just insulating the alcoves isn't going to make a lot of difference.
