I'm currently renovating a dutch barge. The superstructure has needed a bit of welding (steel), which is now done. In order to do the welding, we had to remove a kind of rubber/plastic which was stuck on to the wall, I guess to provide some insulation and reduce condensation (which is a nightmare in boats). Having done that and put a primer on the wall, I'd like to insulate. Unfortunately because of the way the boat is made (fitting it round beams would be a nightmare, and the windows would be recessed) putting up insulation board, or insulation then ply, is impractical, and the surface needs to be paintable. Does anyone know where I could find plastic/rubber stick on-insulation? The stuff that was on there before was only about 1mm thick, but I'd prefer to use something a little bit thicker if possible.
I'm open to alternatives/creative solutions.

thanks in advance.

Surely whatever else any other boat builders use to insulate their hulls would be appropriate? ie maybe you should be on a boat builders forum or similar?

At last, a good reason to use spray foam insulation?

I would imagine unless you are in the tropics that steel hull is going to be permanantly cold. The only thing I can come up with is to build yourself a hull within a hull from ply as that can be curved to your contours then fibre glassed, and a bilge pump for condensation. As freddy has said its a specialists subject, good look it sounds like an interesting project.

or spray with a fire-resisting expanding foam?
