About a month ago, my boiler developed an intermittent fault. Sometimes, when I request hot water, the water doesn't heat but the radiators get hot (or hotter, if they're already on). This continues for a couple of hours or even a couple of days, and then the system goes back to working normally. Meanwhile, the central heating works perfectly, all the time.
I've done a basic diagnostic and it looks like the problem is with the 3-way valve. Does anyone know whether this kind of problem can ever be fixed without replacing the valve? The boiler is an Ariston Compact 400 20/1 MPS, around twenty years old, and I'm not sure it's worth spending £200 or more to replace the 3-way valve.
I'm strictly a willing amateur, but I'd be very grateful for any comments.
