Internal stop cock siezed

Hi,
I replacedmy internal stop cock, a couple of years ago, as the gate wouldn't close because of furring, now the replacement is the same.
This is a gate valve, and I've now bought another replacment, but it is a lever type ball twisting type. Is this ok, and will the furring wear the ball.
Are there any other types of stop cock, for this type of thing?

Gate valves are not really suitable as mains water stopcocks. They are prone to not fully closing at the best of times. A good quality lever operated one is ok ,as are the traditional stopcocks.

Brass bodied stop cocks with screw down operation ( and T shaped handle ,a bit like garden taps ) are traditional.
