Is this pasterbaord damaged and need replacing?

Hi,

Hope this the appropriate place to post but can you take a look at my pics and say whether or not the plasterboard is damaged and needs replacing or can it be saved.

Not sure when it started but the paint started feeling back above the tiles in the bathroom and now the plasterboard is exposed and I think the backing as gone with the paint.
I'd hate to have to replace the plasterboard for something so small.

If the pics don't do it justice let me know and I'll try and post some better ones.

Sorry, can I repair the damage? If so, how would I go about it?

It looks like water damage so I'd say your best shot is to clean it up and use car body filler. It really needs the whole job doing properly.

Definitely waster damaged.

So to clean it up, should I strip back the flaky paint that's left until it doesn't flake?

Apply the car body filler to the plasterboard and paint over?

My guess is that’s either behind a bath or in a shower cubicle & looks like water penetration damage, if so it’s almost certainly fecked; is it crumbly? You’ve should also strip all those tiles off as there is almost certainly a lot more of that crap behind the ones that are still on there & you will never get rid of that black mould.

To do anything other than a temporary stop gap repair, you should plan/budget for a total refit which will include replacing all the plasterboard with something more suitable.

Come on joe, car body filler , it’ll be so damp & crumbly, he’ll be lucky if he can get it to stick!

It's not crumbly no which is why I was hopeful of a repair.

No, the plasterboard is sound as well as the tiles.

Cheers![/quote it could mean taking the flaking paint off then making that hole in the corner bigger and patching with a piece of board placed behind it filling in then flushing it all in with easyfill to then blend in with the paint, and then repainting but ive just had an idea have u got any of those tiles left? if so just add another row, job done then 4get about it because another row of tiles or 2 for that matter wouldent look out of place

Ignore the plaster board you can see, its fine. Looking at the original close up pics, I still reckon what's behind those tiles is fecked & what you see is just the 1/3 tip of the iceberg. Filling repairs on what you can see are only going to give you a breathing space, what's festering behind there is still going to carry on & if it doesn’t smell already, it certainly will do at some point.

You might as well try joe’s car body filler, it'll probably last longer than plaster/filler if you can get it to stick.
