KENMORE 80 Series top-loader W/M won't spin

My 80 Series KENMORE washing machine (Model # 110.21884000) won't spin. It is my landlord's and he does not have a operator's manual.

THE PROBLEM: It agitates just fine and continues to do so through the rinse portion of the cycle. Since the machine can't spin, it won't drain, and so the machine continues to agitate thru the rinse cycle and just stops dead in its tracks once it reaches the spin function.

I have been reading your forum and I believe there is a bad timer contact or a problem with the motor. Any advise you could give me would be very much appreciated.

well, may i suggest you start reading it all again, and start with this bit

A bad lid switch would cause the washer to go dead in the drain/spin mode. You might want to check this first to make sure its working properly.
