Hold the seat at the bye election

talk on the radio that certain sections of the party ( corbynistas / momentum) attempted to undermine the labour candidate
Hoping that labour would lose the seat

When you consider that George Galloway took over 8,000 labour votes, Labour held up well.
It was George and the other independent labour candidate that undermined the official labour candidate.
But hopefully, Labour will have learnt that there is over 8,000 Muslim votes to be had if they represent and appeal to the Muslims voters adequately.

About time that little rat Galloway retired.
Calls himself a socialist but was prepared to split the socialist vote for his own selfish ends.

I wonder how Labour would have got on if they had over 8,000 Jewish votes to be had as well?

He is a nasty bit of work, a troublemaker.

He has been stirring up the Muslim community, who in Batley and Spen are very supportive of Palestine.

BBC interview was painful to watch, they too were banging on about Corbyn and do labour MPs support Starmer or not.
Media wants people to think labour are fighting, but they are trying to push their policies and gather more trust, be a stronger opposition.
Media doesn't like that.

I'd love to hear names of specific LABOUR MPs that wanted labour to fail in this by-election. I am guessing nobody can name a single person though.

Boris Johnson.

And Laura Kuenssberg but she is not an MP

It was a good result imo

Labour holding onto the seat

you cannot have an opposition party going into meltdown
Bad for democracy

Angela Rayner, Lisa Nandy, Dianne Abbot, John McDonnell.

Owen Jones was coming in his underpants at the thought of losing Batley because he wants Starmer out and the hard left back in, Labour winning Batley is a setback for the hard left. Owen's been quite vocal about it:

“If Labour lose the Batley and Spen by election, Starmer will have to resign…if Keir Starmer resigns, then you need 20 MPs, and the left would then have a very good chance at putting a candidate forward. A lot of people would say John McDonnell would be the obvious candidate in that particular circumstance.”
