Layer of Paper on the Ceiling / Artex

I had to scrap off the layer of paper on a small part of my ceiling where artex stipple use to be, Does anyone know the name of that brown paper that was on the ceiling and what type of glue/adhesive to use? Then I want to apply artex on it.

Was it a thin strip..couple of inches wide?..if so its joint tape.

no its not

its a layer of brown paper thats on both side of the ceilling

it might be plasterboard joint tape, but im not 100% sure

Some of it is also brown..I would use ordinary wallpaper paste to stick it on..wipe of any excess then re artex.
