Lead (?) roof - vertical boiler flue

Hi all,

I'm having my boiler moved to a new location and I'm thinking specifically about where the flue will go.

The walls in this area are thick stone and we plan to avoid coring through this by cutting into the flat lead (I think?) roof and venting out that way.

Is this a stupid idea? I've attached a picture and marked in red where I anticipate the flue would be. I understand that vertical flues aren't a problem but I am just curious how this would work with a lead roof. Are lead roofs difficult to work with in this regard?

I would advise against, whats wrong with coming out of the side wall?

It's a really thick stone wall that looks like it will be a total pain to core through

If you can find someone who can leadburn (weld) it really couldn't be easier.
Make up correct sized sleeve weld into place, done correctly be there long after your gone.

As above, If at all possible I would find an alternative to the lead flat.
Core drilling stone is a common practice but you dont give thickness dimensions for the walls or say exactly what type of stone wall it is?
Why not post a pic of the outside showing a window or door reveal and a bit of wall?

My feeling so far, is that if I want to do this properly, it's probably best to engage a competent lead roofing specialist.

I think your mark on the roof is not accurate - allowing for the wall thickness it will end up too close to the lead roll. Careful measuring is needed. It could be done through the roof - I could have , back in the day . Cut the hole having made the slate ready with a 25mm flange to go on the roof . Then from the inside lift the lead covering slightly and insert heatproof mat. Up on the roof the flange is burned in . There won't be any plumbers left who do it - we're all retired . You need a specialist lead worker not a "roofer"

OP,
With a new hole saw, & going nice & steady, you would be able to core that kind & thickness of stonework.
