Hi have just noted, probably been there for a while. The joint on the flue of my oil fired boiler. The area is covered in a white powder which looks exactly like washing powder when its got wet. Can anyone tell me what this might be. Boiler is about 12 years old now.

Not sure but best to get it checked, and don't use the boiler in the meantime as flue gases leaking into your house are a Very Bad Thing

If its the joint where the flue pipe joins onto the boiler its probably some moth eaten fireclay cement that you see......can you post a picture?
John :)
