I was trying to install a radiator last night. I laid all the pipes, drained the system and connected them into the piping circuit expecting to get a couple of leaky joints as this is my biggest plumbing project to date. All the joints were fine but the balance valve is dripping and wont stop. Its a new radiator with a new valve and it is leaking through the thread in the large bolt which attaches the valve to the radiator. I've had a helper to try and help me tighten it more and there is no way i can get it any tighter than it already is. Could this be a faulty valve thread and is there any way i can put something on the thread before i tighten it up to help it seal up better?

I've looked closely at the thread and can't see any damage so can't see what the problem might be??

Andrew,

How much PTFE tape did you put on the threads.

You need to put loads on (9 or 10 wraps), keep wrapping in on until you can only jsy get the threads to bite in the rad. The tighten up as much as you can.
