Hi all,

I had a shower fitted about 18 months ago. I have noticed a small damp patch on the wall behind the shower the next room. When I examined the shower the bottom tile (a cut down tile) it had a small amount of movement and the grout had cracked. It had that dreaded hollow sound when I gave it a tap. I have not been impressed with the standard of work in the rest of the bathroom (I have had to fix leaks on everything except the shower so far) but hoped the shower would be OK. It looked pretty good.

I have removed the tile and took a pic. Should I be able to tell if the wall had been tanked or otherwise prepared properly? It looks like I can see the base coat plaster, where the top coat has just come off.

What's the best way to repair this? The man in tile shop said let it dry out fully, then mastic the tile back in place?... sounds like a bit of a bodge to me. Getting the bloke back who did it is not an option. Is there anything I can do?

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Using small cuttings of tile at the botttom of a wall in any shower is asking for trouble/leaks. I don't know why people do it that way!!! It definitely "spoils the look of a job" too.

Agreed :(. Any Ideas how I can fix this with resorting to ripping it all out. I'm fed up with getting fleeced. It's so hard to find anyone to to a good job.
