Hi

Was wondering the best way of sorting this mess out...

We are renovating our house and have started to tackle the kitchen. The ceiling was patched up and was uneven so we decided to take it down and put some fresh plasterboard up, but discovered this mess.
The bath has been patched up and the floor underneath has had time to dry out, but what can be done to stop any further damage???

Can this easily be sorted without taking the bath out???

Cheers

You must check the condition of those joists; it’s almost impossible to tell how much damage has been done from a photo but if they show any sign of being soft they have rotted & must either be replaced or, if the damage is minor, the rot completely cut out & the joists strengthened; a bath full of water + an occupant weighs quiet a lot  ! If you can detect is any sign of permanent water damage (softness) from below the only way you can asses the extent of the problem & carry out repairs IMO is to strip out the bathroom & have the floor up.

You also need to rectify or repair whatever was causing the leak in the first place; I would concentrate on sorting out the bathroom before doing any further work in the kitchen below.
