Good evening,

I am planning to lay laminate floor on my hallway. however there is doormat holder of 24 inch by 24 inch near front door with 3/4 inch recess into ground,
there is about 2mm metal rim protruding above floor level.

I would like to know how to remove the metal rim around the doormat recess and what material is most suitable to fill the recess up to the floor level.

Many thanks for your advices/tips.

18mm wbp ply ?

Assume you are using underlay before laying the laminate - is this thick enough to absorb the 2mm?

If not,Breezers angle grinder suggestion is probably quickest :D

Thanks for both your reply.

yes, i am using damp proof membrane underlay.

The metal rim is in one level, but the surrounding floor (tiled floor) isn't. as you may notice from the picture, there is uneven surface near the bottom rim (small part of it is almost at the same level as the rim), which I am think of using a grinder make the bump level as well as cutting the protruding metal rim.

what is wbp?

Water Board Proof, another name is Exterior Plywood.

They use waterproof glue in between laminated layers.

Might be best to use sand/cement for the same sound effect!

Thank you all for the help. I have completed the project.

In the end, I took out the metal rim and levelled it up with cement and fine sand from local diy shop.

Thanks for the reply - it's nice to know how people got the job done.
After all,you may have come up with a new idea that we can all learn from :D
