Lintel for new doorway

Hi all,

I am looking to knock a hole through an existing wall to from a new doorway and wondered if anyone had any advice on what type/size of lintel I might use.

There is nothing on top of the wall where I want to make my hole other than ceiling joists that hold up a plasterboard ceiling. Pretty sure that my hole will impact three joists.

Thanks in advance if anyone can give me a bit of advice.

Concrete builders lintel (70mm x 100mm) will be ok under normal loads.

if your wall is only a stud wall (timber) then you can just use a timber stud as the head of the door opening.
