Locking 2 sections of stable door

My tool of a carpenter put the dead lock in the wrong section, leaving the top only locked with the bolt (my fault for not noticing... but still).

What would be the best way lock both sections together? i.e. with a key...

Any thoughts?

you could fit a mortice rack bolt to hold the two halves together.

however if it is an external door, you need a BS lock on both halves

Cheers, yeah it's an external door, so I should dead lock both sections.

I guess it's not too tricky to fit, but it's a fairly important thing to get right, *never* found anyone who could do a decent job... sighs
