Hello,

After a bit of advice

I've been thinking about getting the loft converted. But a few things are concerning me!

Currently the ceiling joists don't sit on the wallplate. They are just nailed to the rafters.. they are 2x4 timbers, with a supporting wall mid span. Span being 6.5 meters. Will Steels be needed?

The height from the ridge to the ceiling joists currently is 2.1 meters. Is this enough? Or do the ceilings need lowering?

Thanks in advance. I did try looking for similar but couldn't find information

You've got no chance with such a low ridge unless you're ceilings are about 3m and you have the cash for a mammoth redevelopment or you raise the roof. Steels or timber beams are always required.

Thanks for replying. I did wonder why only 1 person has a loft conversion down our road. Makes sense. They have a huge dormer one side.
