Low Loss Header

I have just been looking at the Keaton link you provided Doitall.
On page 4 a hydraulic layout is shown which shows a pump fitted between the the header and the boiler which Keston calls a "shunt pump".

Surely this is the "primary" pump.
If that shunt pump (as Keston call it) was not fitted , then water would never pass through the boiler because the secondary pumps after the header would just circulate water through the header alone and no heat would never reach the system .

Sider, in my profile you will find my e, send me a phone number and I'll call you.

Thanks for the offer Doitall but its OK.
Plumbing to me is just a hobby. Have had lots of offers for work recently but turned them down as I am not qualified.
Done some pipefitting though. :D
I was winding you up earlier when I quoted your installtion as being "wrong". It looks a superb piece of work. Its just a pity its buried in what looks like a basement.
I left the pipefitting game earlier this year after 8 years and returned to a family run business which involves agricultural construction.

A better buy would be.........

http://www.heatinghelp.com/shopcart/product.cfm?category=2-44

or even
http://www.heatinghelp.com/shopcart/product.cfm?category=2-166
Those are both in US units, which might cause problems.

The former is very good, written in plain English, rather than going into learned tome/big word mode like UK authors tend to.
I haven't read the latter, been meaning to buy a copy. He knows his stuff.[/quote]

These links no longer seem to be valid, does anybody know which books they related to / have new links?

Thanks

I am not surprised!

They are both retail listings and four years is a long time in the life of book sales.

I probably meant this;
http://www.heatinghelp.com/products/Books/5/99/Primary-Secondary-Pumping-Made-Easy

and this;

http://www.heatinghelp.com/products...eating-Second-Edition-br-by-John-Siegenthaler

Any of Dan Holohan's books are good informative stuff; I also have Hydronic Radiant Heating and Pumping Away; they cost a fair bit but I learned a vast amount from them. Primary-Secondary pumping is common sense (when you've read the book) but such common sense is rarely applied in the workplace.

You may get the Siegenthaler book cheaper from a UK supplier, Amazon or E-Bay. I still haven't bought myself a copy! :oops: Time to visit Smith's with all the vouchers. He writes for several of the US trade magazines, you will find many of his articles on the internet.
