Mayurw, you should not be touching any gas or safety devices on boilers if not gas registered. That included APS and PCB.

A professional repairer woild not be charging for parts which are not needed.

What are you going to do about your friends boiler now?

The obvious thing is to call an RGI

If it happens I think it is time to check the secodary heat exchanger as if there is crap in the system then the heat exchanger gets blocked and this reduces the flow rate of water and cxauses the over heat cut out to trip and thus red light. It is easy to remove follow the manual and tapp it with plastic mallet and run under water.
