Hey folks,

Been muling over a pretty major job for the last few days, and thought this place seemed like a good place for some sound advice.

Basically, I am looking to totally redesign my backdoor. By this, I dont mean take up turf or lay a few slabs - its a wee bit bigger than that.
We currently have patio space, about 10'x3'. There is then a massive, old school retaining wall which pretty much holds up the proper garden. This being a large section of grass and also thr neighbours garden.
At the gable end we have a communial path which has a set of stairs to take you to our back lawn:

(Appologies, dont know how to embed, and using my phone!)

Now, what I would like to do it simple to describe - but i fear ALOT more difficult in practice? I want to remove the side wall that seperates the stairs from the patio. Id then like the stairs extended over a little bit and the holding wall removed. Basically so that the garden becomes one big open plan area - rather than two?

I am good with things like this, although by no means am I professional. We are on a limited budget, which is why I havent went straight to a landscaper.

Any tips/ideas?
