I am renting a house (while I build) and have had dreadful trouble with the heating over the winter. Seems like its sorted now but now I have a new dillemma...

I was in the back garden on Saturday and I noticed a bit of weathered wood on the ground, I thought my son would trip on it and lifted it up to find .... an open sewer, the wood is being used as a manhole cover and doesnt sit into the manhole but over it and there are a fair few gaps.

Should it my landlord (or me!!!) that sorts this?

It is your landlords responsibilty to ensure the property is safe for any tenants so i'd get him involved as soon as possible.

I concur, get Environmental Health involved sharpish if he doesn't respond fast. Outrageous!

Obviously make it safe in the meantime.
