I want to paint the inside of my fireplace mat black. However, none of the spray paints I find in the DIY shop say that they're suitable for masonry and the inside of my fireplace is bare brick. What should I use? Might the stuff for cars be OK?

I wouldnt use that.....you could get a reaction with other paints

Check out the blackfirars range of paints they do one called dull or flat black I beleive

Failing that......what about plain black emulsion or masonry paint.

Hmmm... are any of those spray application? The brick faces are a bit crumbly you see and wire brushing doesn't seem to help much.
