mcb or rcd??

Hi there,
have fitted a 9.5kw shower,all connections made except at cu,have the building regs guy coming on wednesday to inspect the work,what I would like to know is do I use an mcb or an rcd,I know it has to be 40amps(according to the paperwork with the shower),10mm cable used.I have an mcb,is this sufficient according to part p regs?

You need both. Showers should have RCD protected (protection against earth faults) and MCB protection (protection against overloads).

You can get both these in one single device called an RCBO. John will be along shortly to tell you how great they are.

You should follow manufacturers instructions, which most probably recommend the protection of an RCD.

You should either have the shower circuit protected by an MCB on the RCD side of a split-load board, or the shower on a 40A 30mA RCBO.
