I'm looking for a bit of advice. I've currently got a rad off the wall for some major plastering. Its very old and manky looking, seems a few people have tried painting it to match the walls using emulsion. It hasn't worked.

Anyway, I'd like to do a straight swap for another radiator. I'd like it to fit into the pipework so I don;t have to drain down the system (or get a plumber in to do it). The problem is knowing which size to go for. The current rad is about 1250 mm long. I can;t find anybody who does rads in this size.

I'm sure this must be a standard size rad but how are the measurements taken?

Help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Bob.

get a double 1200 you should be able to move the pipes enough to match up, just check the height as well.

1200 with rad extensions, newer 1/2" valves and pegler type extensions look best.
As for "off the wall" pipe measurements (wall to centre of pipe) different brands have different sizes
If you post this measurement someone will know what rad suits best

The question regarding this "standard" radiator ..it is likely to be an imperial measurement, not the now standard Metric.

It hadn't occurred to me these would be imperial measurements. Feeling a bit dim today obviously.

I'll pop off home and remeasure. Sounds like a close fit an extenders/pipe bending are the way forward.

Or just do a proper job on the old rads and strip/down paint. Don't really fancy that option.

Timmyturtle could you give me more info on those pegler extensions please , i need something of that ilke but i cant see it in there catalogue ,
Thanks

Rad extensions usually avaialable in 10, 20, 30 & 40mm lengths. Available at Plumb Center and other plumbers merchants
