Yes - you've said that before.

Care to explain what's wrong with pulling it upwards, and how you would bend a long piece in the middle?

Apart from it being easier most of the time to use the lever downwards, I don't see anything wrong with using it so the handle goes upwards. Whatever takes your fancy.
