I am fitting a new consumer unit the old tails are 16mm and the tails from the main fuse the meter are also 16mm.
The main fuse is 80amp is it ok to use 16mm to wire up the new unit

What the point if the DNO wont increase from 80amp? Many wont. 80amp is the max they will place for a standard service head.

You can do either. 16mm is adequate. You can fit 25mm now, or wait until you need an increased supply. It's no drama either way.

Theres not a huge difference in cost between 25 and 16mm. Just go with the 25mm and save the hassle at a later date.

Mine is on a main 60amp cut out what should I use in conductors and earth also house on a TT and I want to PME it ?

Er nope, we always fuse to 100A if possible, which is most of the time

Your employers maybe.

I know for FACT that WPD will goto 80amp in standard heads, using different heads (and larger cables) for 100amp services.

For example.

This is a typical WPD 80amp TPN service:

The cut-out in the first photo is rated at 120A per phase so is fine for 100A

The one in the second is rated at 400A per phase

Looks like WPD is ultra conservative!

I think they always have been.

They will go with 16mm services upto 80amp.

If you want 100amp, it's 25mm and the larger heads.

Above 100amp is CT.
