I have a mirror approx 2 ft by 2ft that I would like to frame and hang in my living room.
Can anyone tell me the best way to go about it.
I do have a chopsaw at my disposal and need to know also what sort of wood will be required.
Much obliged :)

mmmmmmmm

propper way use 2 by one plained come out at about 44mm by 19mm

now you normaly router out a rebate at the back about 7mm wide

so you make all internal measurements 12mm less than the mirror

also normaly mitre and dowel or use buiscuts on the corners

let me know what of the above tools you have and ill give you ideas

Thanks for reply Big al :)
I have a chopsaw and router but no biscuit cutter etc.
Which router bit should I use and how does the mirror attach to the frame :?:

If you have a router just use a straight cutter and the guide fence to cut the rebate unless you have a bearing guided rebate cutter to fit.

As the mirror is not too big it could be stuck in with silicon or put a piece of hardboard behind the mirror and use glazing sprigs or small pins to hold it into place.

You ban get a bit for the router that allows you to cut biscuit slots that work out a lot cheaper than a dedicated machine.

You could always use wider board and go for butt joints like this one I am just finishing off that was made from some offcuts of maple veneered MDF.

Or if you have a selection of router bits try something like this one made from 18 & 25mm MDF and given a distressed painted look.

good advice from jason as always

do you have rebar cutter like this on

http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat...t/pro.jsp?id=16095&slotName=null&homeRef=null

if you dont have allternative larger bearing you to reduce to about 7mm
you just make the rebate the width you can and make the inner frame
2mm bigger than the cobined reduction suspect your cutter will cut 12.7mm
so 24 inches - 1inch +2 or 3mm 588mm

if you dont want to or cant rebate you can add a bit of ply mdf wood
to the back to make a rebate
if your going to paint it go for mdf 12mm cut from solid
in other words cut a square then cut out another square 23.5 inches
add another bit of mdf about 2mm thicker than the mirror
on the back from the outside edge to 1mm short of where the mirror
edge will be so you now have a solid looking structure with a rebate

you can also add a bit to your pine to give you a rebate
so what you have is your frame mitred and glued [no dowels]
you then add the bits for the rebate but going the full hight of the frame
holding the the top bottom and sides together then put a bit top
and bottom to complete your rebate
also if you screw and glue a bit of 4mm mdf to the back[2ft by 2ft]
it will hold it all together

big all

Thank you both :D
Me and woodwork are not very good friends but I will have a go ;)
