Hello All

I went to see a Mitsubishi Colt has about 11,000 miles on the clock. When the engine was started a small puff of blue smoke appeared out of the exhaust! Is this normal for a Turbo engine? If not what do you need to look out for in Turbo diesels? Many thanks in advance.

Dear All

Anybody know the answer to my question listed about the puff of blue smore on a Mitsubishi Colt 1.5 Diesel Turbo? many thanks in advance.

Blue smoke indicates partially combusted diesel; it's quite normal to see a bit of smoke when starting a diesel (or even a great cloud sometimes).

I have a Colt diesel and am fairly happy with it; the engine is a nice torquey unit for its capacity.

Dear xerxes

Many thanks for the reply. Does this mean that it burns oil then?

My apologies: I seem to have got my colours mixed up.

Blue smoke would indicate lubricating oil burning; black smoke is incompletely combusted diesel fuel. So it may be burning a bit of lubricating oil, or it could indicate a timing problem. Are you sure it's blue, and not black or grey?

HI

Yes definetly Blue puff of smoke when engine was started from Cold.
