Hello :)

Does anyone know if you can move an existing mobile number over to a new phone after you have purchased it? or does it have to be before it arrives as you order it?

No, you can do it at any time, just need to get a PAC (Porting Authorisation Code) from your existing provider. The whole process is pretty painless these days.

Getting the PAC should take less than 2 days (they are legally obliged to adhere to this) and it's valid for about a month.

Give your new provider the details and then wait a couple of days for it to switch.

Good luck

If you have bought the new phone on a contract, then you may have to keep the number as part of the contract.
But you can PORT a number, could take 2 weeks, but of course the new contract may be set up with the new number.
SO YOU WILL HAVE TO ASK YOUR NEW PROVIDER.

Just done it for an addtional phone. Entirely painless, as Toasty says.

If you buy at a shop they will transfer your number and phonebook list to the new phone while you wait.

As I have said it depends on the contract, if this is a contract.

Although the above posters are correct in what they say re the transfer of the number.

SO ASK ..DO NOT ASSUME

Thanks everyone for your replies, very helpful, I'll double check with the contract just to make sure. Thanks :D
