Got a traditional brick chimney stack and was going to install a multi-fuel stove but did'nt know if i need a liner all the way to the top of the stack as suggested by a local dealer. I was just planning on fitting a steel plate with a hole in it, into the opening to take the flue ? Any suggestions please

You need to install it exactly as required by the manufacturers.

You have not mentioned exactly which fuels but if you dont have a flue liner its likely to give an insufficient flue draught and be dangerous. As well as the likelyhood of condensation on the inside of the chimney.
