Hello all,

Was wondering if anyone had any experience using a multi saw like the Bosch PFZ500E and if they though it would be up to the job of cutting through new softwood sleepers. Sleepers are 125mm wide by around 225mm deep. saw can handle up to 150mm wide but would it have enough grunt to cut that depth accuratelyish.

thanks
Trevor

assuming its like a reciprical saw the only way to get near accurate lines is to draw a line across the back front and top affix 2 battons on the back edge as a guide and follow the near face as you cut

I've got one of those saws and to be honest I think it would struggle.

I found it as much effort to use the Bosch saw on 4"x4" posts as it was to use a sharp hand saw.

I bought a Bosch PFZ500E off screwfix and sent it back as it was rubbish and got a Bosch GSA 800PE Sabre Saw it will cut anything

I have the Bosch green multi saw - have had it years and have cut all things with it including sleepers and similar oak beams

Bung a 225 pruning blade or a rough cut blade in, and it will do the job. Don't press on hard, but just lightly move it back and forth, and vary the angle of cut too.

Its really the blade which counts and there are other more specialist blades which may cut faster.

Also, the saw will take certain blades up to 300mm long, so its not limited to the 150mm depth of cut stated.

This saw is one of the most useful tools to have, but even more useful in a cordless version

no
the old good model was the pfz550 i think
the 500 only takes small blades not the standard recip blades

if you want something reasonably effective for little money look at the skil model

Mine is the older version, but I just thought that the newer one had a different updated casing?

I did not know that there were different fittings for reciprocating blades, i thought they were all standard.

If the new version does not take standard blades, then don't bother and get a model that does

Ah ok thanks again for all the replies. Can't find the older Bosch model anywhere so looks like i will go the old fashioned route and use my handsaw.

thanks again
Trevor

I've just had a look at the PFZ500E and it seems to have a "SDS" blade system, and as such, does not take any of the hundreds of commonly available reciprocating saw blades.

What a poxy idea
