Hi all !! ....
My 3 1/2 year old Vivaro threw a tantrum recently. It has done less than 44000 miles and has never so much as had a hiccough before, no coughs, splutters or judders. It has always started first time every time, and has never had less than two bars showing on the fuel gauge, before it was filled to the top.
I stopped at the side of the road recently, with the engine idling. After about 5 minutes, the engine just stopped, as though I had turned off the ignition, and wouldn't restart at all. I called the AA who could only get it to fire briefly by using "Easy Start". I got them to carry it to my local Vauxhall dealer to run a diagnostic. They informed me that I would probably need a new fuel pump, new injectors etc, etc, and would cost me AT LEAST £2500 (probably more), depending on what they found.
As I could not afford this, I asked a local garage whom I have dealt with for years, to pick the vehicle up for me and have a look at it. They told me that it started immediately when they drove it on to their lorry and also started ok, when they drove it off. I drove the van home a day or so later, with no problems at all, until, the following day, I stopped at a local supermarket for about half an hour, to do some shopping. The van would not start again at this point.
The AA came again and were just as baffled as before. They carried it back to my friends garage, where it started again without any problems, a day or so later, but stopped on it's own again, after a test period of prolonged idling. It has still never miss-fired or anything else. It purrs like a kitten when it is running It hasn't started since.
The fuel pump was sent away for testing and analysing, and has come back today as "no problems found".
Has anyone any information that may help me with this problem please?
John (in desperation)
