Does anyone know how to avoid chipping bits of plaster away, when nailing a picture hook into a painted/plastered wall? I heard that holding a piece of tissue may help, but I'm not sure I should risk that approach.

Thanks,

Andy.

clear "stcky tape" then nail through it (also masonary nails are good, pinch them from cable clips)

Now I would have thought an upward angle.. ..
But
Why worry if paint/plaster chips isnt something going on the hook / hole that will cover it.

not if:

picture string too long

picture frame fixing too high

So you have to shorten the string or move the picture frame fixing. My hanging organiser insists on not being able to see the string/wire or the wall fixing.
Me? I just hate hammering nails into freshly cleaned, filled and painted walls.

If the nail is not too thick you could try snipping the sharp point off using pliers.
Hammering in with a blunted nail may help reduce the risk of cracking plaster.
