I’m preparing to knock out the wall at the top of the stairs to create a new doorway for an extra bedroom. The current door has a lintel above it but I’m unsure if this will need one? Without measuring I think it’ll leave about 4 bricks above the door case.

There is also a ceiling joist that seems to be supported by the remaining studs, any suggestion if I can remove these and / or support another way within the loft?
