I've been told that the problem with my boiler is probably the heat exchanger but the boiler isn't brilliant anyway. Should I get it fixed or just replaced completely? If I get it fixed how much is it likely to cost and how long might it then last for? It's 10 years old and a combi

Thank you for any replies

that the water gets to a certain temperature and then cuts out and the water goes cold. Water doesn't get very hot ever

Do you have any idea of how much it will cost to repair? Just roughly.

Thanks for replying. Really appreciated

I consider the Linea to be a modern design and totally repairable.

Getting it repaired would enable it to last at least another fice years.

So doing the job properly by a competent would be a sensible option and taking into account any other aspects.

As its blocked the whole system might need cleaning.

I replace the plate on one of these 2 weeks ago.

Bill came to approx £185 + VAT

Just replacing the plate hex is usually not sufficient; it will just act as a filter for the crap that is floating around in the system.
In most cases both problems can be solved in one go with a powerflush.

I charge £136 to clean the plate, where possible using a ready cleaned one to do a quick swop.

If its the first time and after a year I advise that it will probably be some while before it blocks again.

If its a regular occurance and water is dirty then I advise a power flush. Of course they dont get that done and I tell them very clearly that we give no guarantee. Of course they phone a few months later and still expect us to repair it free!
