Hi
We have just had delivery of a brand new 2kw plug and play hot tub Trouble is after running it a few hours it trips the b16 MCB
For the downstairs sockets (2.5 radial)
My question is would it be advisable to increase the MCB to a 20amp or should it be on its own circuit .
Thanks.

What else is connected to your downstairs sockets ? You may just be overloading the circuit .

Kitchen sockets are included so microwave ,kettle ,fridge not included is the freezer and cooker those have there own circuits.
Also the TV and 2 lamps.

Could be worth investing in a Clamp Meter and measuring what's going through the the breaker and/or the hot tub.
Any combination of hot tub & kettle, or hot tub, fridge & microwave could push you past 16A.

Thanks for your replies and advice
When this lock down is over I’ll get a sparky in to change the breaker and test it.
Looking through the manufactures online manuals it states trying 20amp I’ve attached a screenshot
Thanks again.

Your heater is 2Kw but your jets need to be powered by a pump which blows the air through the system. This may be as low as 0.37kw but could be higher, thereby using more current.
I have my hot tub on a 32A ring and have no problems with it even though the plug is fused at 13A

A 16amp mcd may trip if that current runs for some time but that will be longest heating from cold. So I'd wonder about a duff one.

It could be 16amp due to cable length. 20amp should be ok up to 40m for power anyway assuming you have a decent supply. The max load should be a bit less than the rating.

strange you have 16 amp mcb on what appears to be a ring circuit

Ring circuit usually has several sockets and would normally 32 amp

And how would you describe a radial socket circuit, then?
well I wouldn't be to pleased someone fitting a radial using 2.5mm unless I had agreed to it or they had explained the options or reason , the exact reason is why so many are overloaded. Cheapness or a tad lazy are often the real reasons. If your going for radial put a 4mm in.

Why are so many overloaded? Not my experience at all. And not the experience of most of the World who do not indulge in ring final circuits.
