Hi, I was wondering if anyone can help me get to the bottom of my boiler problem.

I have an Ideal Classic RS 40 boiler and it just keeps running whether the timer is on or not, and so keeps pumping hot water through the radiators and I can't stop it. The best I can do is turn the boiler dial down so it doesn't heat any water up but then I don't get any hot water in the morning either.

The boiler is also fairly noisy and every so often it will make a quite loud rattle as if it's winding up for something then go back to the usual pumping sound. The pressure on the boiler varies a bit too between 0.5 and about 2.

I'm just a little worried because I've just had a plumber come and service my boiler because of this problem and he said the boiler was fine, and he couldn't see any problems.

If anyone can shed any light on this for me I would be extremely grateful.

Thanks,

Ross.

Control fault .... Programmer or possibly diverter or other wiring fault

Pressure vessel faulty, needs pumping up or undersized

Get an engineer out.
Look for one who specialises in fixing boilers rather than having a sharp intake of breath followed by the words > " your boilers knackered and you need a new one mate"

I would think a zone valve is faulting and the microswitch inside is stuck always giving switched live to boiler.
