My girlfriend has a noisy, valve or relay on her Ideal Elan 2 boiler. It clicks really loudly just before the boiler fires up and because the thermostat is near the front door, when there are drafts it can cycle the boiler every minute or so. The click is quite loud and has been constant since she has bought the house few years ago.

Is this a fault on the boiler? if so any ideas.

Its driving her (and me) so mad that she is thinking of swapping the boiler completely. This seems a bit drastic as it works fine but does look a bit old. If this is the way to go any ideas on a good replacement. She has a sealed system with a water tank and hot water cylinder. A combi boiler would be ideal as it would free up space in the airing cupboard. Its a small two bed/one bathroom house with 6 rads. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

If the click or other noise is coming from the boiler then it will be a slightly faulty component on the boiler. Could be a relay or could be the gas valve solenoid. Corgi territory.

If however you mean it is from the stat by the door then swap this.
