My mate has asked me to have a look at his central heating, since its recently had a mind of its own, sometimes firing up, sometimes not.

A plumber who has had a look at the boiler reckons its the old cream/brown drayton tempus seven programmer, probably about 20 years old. I had a look at it yesterday, and all seemed fine, it was switching the load to the stat etc on request.

Anyway it packed up again last night. Does anyone know of a direct replacement for this programmer, possibly the new tempus seven? I'm a commercial spark who has little experience of domestic heating systems. I believe it is a fully pumped system.

The wallplate is standard and has the following connections.

N, L, 1 (N/O HW), 2 (N/O CH), 3 HW SW LIVE, 4 CH SW LIVE

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers Anthony

Why not change it with a new Tempus 7, good programmer.
But if the old one is working ok I would check for a faulty motorised valve or stat.
