There is a lot of misunderstanding regarding Part P & it’s not a particularly user friendly or well written piece of legislation. You can get into situations where you have no chance of legitimately getting what’s been done certified & the only way out is to rip it all out & get it re-installed by a man who can, even thought there may be nothing wrong with it; the problem is frequently posted on here.
It’s the cable routes, boxes & method of fixing, termination etc that causes the problems & must either be inspected before it’s all buried (by LABC) or sparky will sign it off as compliant as a part of the installation works he’s doing. It’s this bit that causes the problems rather than testing as once it’s buried there is no way of establishing if it’s compliant. I’m not a spark but believe what you’re proposing goes beyond maintenance or the cop out or replacing single/damaged cables etc as your effectively doing a partial rewire even if using the same cables but no doubt the sparks will confirm one way or the other. I would not advise you do anything until you speak to your chosen spark or you could end up with a problem.
