Hi everyone,

My wife and I are having a problem with our oven. When we first turn it on it clicks and ignites fine but it is garaunteed to go out in a few minutes and start clicking to be ignited again, only when I go and open the door does it actually light up - this happens about 2 or 3 times, every time.

It's becoming a bit worrying because the smell of gas is quite strong and we have to be near the oven everytime we cook anything!

It's a Hygena diplomat if that's any use...?

Any help would be really appreciated guys.

The only diy thing you can do is to give the areas around the ignitor/pilot a good clean. As you realise this is potentially dangerous so if that does not fix it call someone out without delay.

I used to work for a cooker manufacturer if this occured they changed the appliance, its called burner outage and is dangerous.
Might just need the burner cleaning or the bypass might be blocked.
Do not use it till its fixed !!!!

Very good chance that this needs a new door seal, if its a hygena gas then its built by stoves....... Its complicated to explain why to the layman but as an ex stoves engineer, I can tell you that its the first thing that all of us would go for, and 90% of the time it will fix it, there are other things it can be though.

Guys,

A massive thanks for the reply's - I obviously need to get this sorted asap. What is the best thing to do? Should I call a Hygena specialist, a regular oven specialist or get a new oven?

Any properly registered gas oven engineer should be able to repair it, but from what gasbanni says you would probably be best contacting the manufacturer.

They went with MFI

What Stoves as well as Hygena?
Stoves wont do the call as its not badged as one of their appliances even though they know they carry all the parts on the van.
Thanks, I was beginning to get worried then as we have their appliances in our kitchen. Seems like a bad attitude for them to adopt though if they made the product in the first place & customers have nowhere else to go. :( Sorry Solly don't know what else to suggest.

UPDATE:

Chaps, I wanted to update you with this. We've now got a second hand oven (which I was assured was working). I got a friend of friend who's a gas engineer to install it. Now the cooker hob works (which is seperate) and the grill on the oven seems to be working properly however the oven will not heat up properly. I get a small blue flame but that's it! I've read the instructions and I'm igniting it properly.

I'm starting to think there's an issue with the gas supply - could that be the case?

Thanks.
