Hi - I have a varnished back door that I want to paint. Stripping off the varnish seems too much like hard work. Does anyone know of a suitable primer/undercoat that can be laid down on top of the varnished surface please? Thanks.
Give it a good sand down remove dust then give a coat of zinsser bin or gardz (have a look at there products online) then oil based undercoat to go with your top coat.
Yep, its always good to de-nib and despite what it says on the tin you're always going to get a far better bond between paint and substrate if its well keyed.

thought I would ask, have recently started using there products after seeing a lot of good things said about them on here, have been sanding as its just the natural thing to do really, but was wondering if I was wasting my time or not.
