Guys,

Hoping one of you professionals will be able to offer me some advice. I went to a job today in a pub with old 1 1/2" iron pipework, it was tied into a relatively modern central heating system, however the pipe has developed a leak and is streaming water into the cellar.

After discussion with the owner of the business he wants to patch up the pipework. I'm not happy that I'm going to be able to do this, having very limited experience of iron, I wonder if anyone of you could advise me as to whether or not there are any fittings (such as a sleeve) that can be used with iron to remedy such problems?

I've advised the owner that it is likely that such a repair would have a limited life but given that the iron is hidden above a suspended ceiling he wants to minimise the amount of disruption.

Details of any manufacturers or part details really would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Cheers Kev, I'll check out the fittings.

My main concern is that the pipework is totally inaccessible, I'd hate to cut into it to find I've dropped a major clanger!

why you wouldn't be the first

have a look at the Primofit range from George Fischer

a big compression fitting in essence, nice clean square cut and away ye go

i would cut n screw personally, but only cause its what i do in my job!!!

If the pipe has sprung a leak it most be in a pretty bad condition.

Not sure you really want to touch it, if it's not your main line of work.
