Does anyone have an idea what has caused the PCB (E I A-FFI) to burn out. The part which is burnt relates to the Fan relay & circuit pump relay.

Photos attached.

Have ordered new PCB but don't want to just put in the new part in case it happens again.

We have been having trouble with the secondary heat exchanger but this has now been replaced.

We have also had trouble with the on/off switch not working properly.

I know the best advice would be to replace the boiler completely but just can't afford to do this at the mo

Probably just poor quality boiler.
If you want to play safe, get a RGI to check the boiler over for faults. A service would not be a bad idea either.

It is a distinct possibility the burnout is due to worn relay contacts. Relay contacts erode over it's operational life to end up 'just' making or breaking when relay operates. This some times causes local arcing and heat generation leading to burnout near the relay.

Do ensure fuses are what they should be and not a 'six inch nail' in place of the fuse

The is a number of things that could cause the burn out as DP says relay contacts could be an issue with one of the diodes or the bridge could have shorted. If its on the fan and pump circuit then just check they are free and check them for resistance then pop in a new board and fingers crossed

Thank you everyone for your help. :D

We are going to start saving for a new boiler ready for the winter!

Have arranged to have pump and fan tested before installing the new PCB just to make sure.

Had our annual boiler service in February - this has happened since then -typical eh!

Have found great parts website - really helpful and good value - deansgas.co.uk - just thought I would pass that on.

Save up by all means, but you do not need a new boiler. Present boiler will be good for a few years.
