Well folks, it's that time again!

This week I was working in a cellar conversion. Downlights galore!

It was not looking too bad until I started looking a little bit futher

DL's wired in 2.5mm² T&E with the CPCs cut off, and exposed connections.
They were fed by a joint box behind the plasterboard wall. This joint box was supplied in LEAD cable! (It was too inaccesible to even get a photo!)

There were sockets wired in 1.0mm² T&E

There was also a socket supplied in rubber cable.

Light switches wired in 0.5mm² flex

IMGP2488.jpg

That switch was supplied from this socket

It is a 6.0mm² (former cooker supply) on a BS3036 fuse. Spurred from it is the 0.5mm² lighting supply, and three twin sockets wired in 1.0mm² (all in the kitchen)

The 6.0mm² neutral fell out of the socket as I eased it away from the wall.

DIYers eh

 nice to see at least one bit of Earth sleeving used

That's a corded cable with factory earth sheath- There's no earth sleeving other than that.

 oh yeah...is that a bit of kitchen towel in the backbox as well?

Major Generalisation Alert:

Kitchen fitters and "conversion" builders (lofts etc), worst kind there is. I'm sure if they knew wet string would work for long enough to get themselves off site, they'd do it!

Obviously, before you all write in complaining, yes, I know that some of them are great, even better than so called pro electricians!
