Yes thanks time is a great healer. but cant take away your memories, all over now just waiting for the court case to come up...We are looking forward to going up to Ayr for Christmas and Edinburgh for new year..do it every year and never get tired of it, Lovely place Scotland...

I don't think these "fellow plasterers" are plasterers John. Good luck with your job though.

Quiet so & if it were me, I would decline to have the same guys back which I’ve done more than once! Good result though.

We spent at least a week on the Ranock estate in Kinlock Ranock every year with the wife’s mum & dad, brother & all the family; they used to go for a month! For me it’s one of the most beautiful & tranquil places on gods earth & we have many years of happy memories of the shenanigans we got up to out there in the relative wilderness :LOL: . We did it for many years & as we are (were) avid fishermen, usually when the Salmon were coming through but it sadly all stopped when the wife’s mother passed away in 2000. We were talking about resurrecting the event but other tragic circumstances on that side of the family now mean it will probably never happen again. I have always wanted to go back up there over Christmas & fully intend to one day but am working on getting our now grown up daughters up there who have their own families now. Enjoy. ;)

midlands john... what can i say? you have been done over by the specialist 1 coat plasterers.. these people really do the trade no justice.. amateurs most of them i been doing this job 17 years and ive only met about 10 good plasterers out of hundreds. most of them i have sacked "before they have even put it on the wall... " you can tell by the mix if they know what their doing. [email protected] for more advice

Hi Guys, picked up on this old thread, and interested because, I,m thinking of having my lounge stripped of paper and the walls skimmed to just paint.
I had expensive moulding made and fitted, dado, wall lights, egg/dart cornice, greek archway, etc.but, the walls were not in good nick, 19 years ago, so lined and papered.Still good, but OH wants a change.
As it,s a retro job, and fiddly, would I be wasting time and money, or could a near perfect finish be achieved, if I get the right guys? worried about the thickness due to the walls not being too good,and it cracking when drying out;;;
it was renovated before I bought it, and walls were just patched, didn,t seem sensible to skim then to paper, but, hindsight is great;any advice would be appreciated.it,s 36 feet by 15, very unusual shape,so it,s not straight foreward.

Hi.

Depends a lot on condition of existing base coat. If that is sound then you can re skim.

Where are you ?

Hi Micilin . Leeds.
Base coat is sound, it,s an old house, but, compleately renovated 19 year ago. I want to be sure I can achieve a very good finish, to just paint, shaded again.Very rarely use the lounge, hence the length of time, but, did it with good stuff first time.walls obviously are not true.would it be 2 coats or 1?it will be fiddly, because of all the ornamental plasterwork on walls to go up to.and around.
