Hi there. I have a Potterton Prima 40f boiler which has been working fine for the last 6 years but yesterday kept shutting down. I switched everything off then back on and it fired up ok but only stays on for around 1 to 1min 30 then clicks and goes off again. Any help would be appreciated.

Is the pump pumping???

Is the system full of water?

See the FAQ on this site if you dont know how to check.

Thanks for your advice guys. The problem was the pump not the boiler. Changed the pump all now up and running again thank goodness.

Wow, I guessed right in spite of the possibility of a rotted ( or even rooted flue ).

However, there was a reason why I suspected the pump.

If the flue had been rotting, that would have been taking place over a long period of time and in that case I would expect the boiler to have started giving slight problems before failing completely.

In this case this was a sudden occurance.

It would be difficult to say "rootted". Many people mentally convert writing into sounds when reading so I thought it would be easier if I corrected the spelling to that of the bits at the bottom of a plant!

tut tut tut ......... no need to think on here - it doesn't help anyone
