I have a 5 year old Potterton Powermax 155x.

For the last 6 months I have been having problems and they seem to be getting worse.

Basically when the bolier fires up it 'bangs'. Occasionally (normally in the middle of the night) after a few failed attempts it fails to ignite and locks out. The pressure then slowly drops.

I am guessing the bolier is either scaled up or the gas/air mixture is wrong.

Any help would be appreciated.

These units are trouble.

I suggest you see if British Gas has their fixed price repair offer on in your area, or try Poxi Batterton Heat Team.

definately go with Potterton heat team. They are the experts on this model.

I believe the heat team charge around £269 for a fixed price repair or you can take their service plan out for around £320 (payable by 6 monthly payments). I don't if these prices are relevant to your boiler model though.
