Hi,

The PCB on my Potterton Profile boiler (http://www.rwl-supplies.co.uk/img/boiler1.jpg) required changing. When I opened up the boiler, I noticed a yellow wire which was connected to the rear of the thermostat control knob. Problem is, the other end of the wire looks like its been cut or pulled off from somewhere, so its just dangling.

Here is a pic I took of the wire…ignore my finger, I have added red arrows to denote the wire in question:

Does anyone know where it’s supposed to go? It does look like an earth wire, but it is not yellow/green …its just yellow

Many thanks

can you see where either end of the wire is connected, or post a pic of the connected end.

Hi,

I will try take some better pics when I get home... The yellow wire is connected to the back of the thermostat control knob and it almost looks like an earth connection as it is connected to something that looks like a small earthing plate. Its not a very long wire…maybe around 6 inches and the other end does not have a connecter and there is no exposed wire so I don’t think its come lose from the connection block http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v458/redbullandvodka/IMAG0126.jpg ,

it just looks like its been pulled from somewhere…I just don’t know where

Thanks

You are right it does look like an earth wire...........it is.
This cable does not have the green line but its still an earth wire.
The other end goes to its own earth point, next to the chocolate box.

Thanks for the replies.

75Pete, are you referring to the PCB (which has been removed in the pic). There is an earth point with a couple of other earth wires connections, you think its come from there?

Below are a couple of pics of the yellow wire connection behind the thermostat knob

As Corgiman, it's the tray support cable and has no electrical purpose.

There's some heavy smokers living there!
