Potterton Suprima 70 (1999 installation) and Boilermate II
I have an intermittent problem which is now becoming an almost permanent problem.
The heating (radiators) are failing to come up to temperature in the morning. This seems to be due to the boiler only coming on for about 1 or 2 minutes and then turning off for about 5-10 minutes. The boiler pump on the Boilermate II constantly runs all the time while this is happening.
After a while, (as the boiler get hotter I assume) it starts to work and stays on for longer and achieves the necessary heat to top up the heat in the Boilermate thermal store.
The timer turns my heating off for most of the day and back on again late in the afternoon. When I come in from work in the evening it seems to be working okay.
The timer turns off the heating for the day at 10PM. The boiler goes off and then the two pumps go off. (the boiler one after a short delay, which is normal).
Peace and quiet for a few hours then I wake up sometimes at night and hear the boiler pump constantly running (its fixed on the side of the Boilermate in the cupboard next to the bedroom ). This is obviously the thermal store calling for a heat top up, but it never gets it as I never hear the boiler getting going properly.
At 6AM the heating timer brings on the heating pump for the rads. There’s normally enough heat left in the store to make the rads slightly warm but then the whole cycle starts over again. Obviously the hot water suffers at the same time
The boiler is not going in to lock out and I am not getting any red lights. Just Amber then flashing green and steady green when it does run. It’s like the boiler thinks its job is done after a minute and turns off for a rest.
This fault happened on two occasions last winter and this winter once in December and has now started doing it almost every day.
Any comments before I call in a specialist.
